Not all students learn at the same pace. Not all students start a given grade level with an equal knowledge base. Often, we provide differentiated instruction to our remedial students. However, our gifted students have special needs too. Unfortunately, differentiating in the classroom can seem like a daunting task. However, it's important to remember that differentiation doesn't mean that every student needs a completely individualized lesson for every class. It simply means offering more opportunities and resources to allow students to thrive in the learning environment by: designing lessons based on students' learning styles, grouping students by ability or interest, and/or allowing students to work independently on above grade level or enrichment material.
